2019 Walvis Bay Rally back in full force

After a year without any visible rallying action in Walvis Bay, the 2019 Walvis Bay rally is back in full force. As such, this weekend's event will be the fourth leg of the 2019 National Rally championships. The three previous rallies of the 2019 championship were held in Gobabis, Swakopmund and Tsumeb respectively. The 2019 V-Power Walvis Bay Rally will be hosted by the town's Motor Club. 21 drivers and their navigators have entered into the rally, which will have ten stages that cover a total distance of 124.8 km. Eight of the ten stages will be on the outskirts of Walvis Bay, with one super special stage, and the last stage to be taking place in town at the Civic Centre. All the top drivers in Namibia will take part in the 2019 edition, making it one of the biggest rallies ever held on Nambian soil. All eyes will be on coastal driver Allan Martin with his new beast, the Skoda R5 that was imported from the Czech Republic, and is one of the fastest rally cars in the world. The 16 hundred turbo charge Skoda R5 rally car is the only one of its kind in Southern Africa and one of only three in Africa. After Martin competed in more than 30 rallies with his Volkswagen 16 Valve Polo Vivo S2000, this rally will be the first with the Skoda R5. Martin said that with dedication, hard work and a lot of savings, his dream has finally become a reality. “With the economy that is in a bad dip, to spend money on a vehicle like this, is my dream. I worked hard to get where we are today. It is also a 4 - wheel drive like my other car. But handling and speed support is much better than the one I had. I still have to learn all the tricks of the car, but positive” he said. Martin is known by all Rally lovers and so spectators can await plenty of action. “You will see much more, but I also have to tame myself not to take changes. My jumps are going to be more spectacular, because the car can handle it better and my speed will be much faster than my other car” he added. The cars will start at 10 am with a control start at the Walvis Shell Express service station, as the first stages will kick off at 10:27.
