Windhoek - The Brave Warriors beat Mozambique 1-0 in their reverse fixture of the 2019 Afcon qualifier Group K match played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium Tuesday night. The match was a must-win for the Brave Warriors against a wounded Black Mambas, who were equally looking for the points at stake to revive their hopes following their 2-1 home defeat against the Mannetti-led troop in Maputo last Saturday. Present at the match was President Hage Geingob and other national leaders. Mozambique started the match the brighter of the two with a passing game and a well-orchestrated defensive plan in place, which kept the Brave Warriors at bay for most part of the first half. Despite finding the going tough, the Brave Warriors turned out to be the real threat as chances after chances went up in smoke, with leading striker Peter Shalulile adding to disappointment of the fans. The kick-off of the second half was delayed for few minutes due to power failure as fans turned to their mobile phones to rescue the situation for a while, before things return to normal. Back again on the field of play - things improved for the Brave Warriors as Mannetti rang some changes, which in the end paid dividends as Shalulile restored his name in good faith with the much needed goal in the 72nd minute that brought the packed stadium to wild celebrations. Mozambique however could not level matters after Brave Warriors defender Denzyl Haoseb received marching orders for a second bookable offence, this time to time-wasting. Although the visitors had the ball in the net, the effort was ruled for off-side, as the match ended in a pleasant 1-0 win for the Brave Warriors. ”We started three months with this boys, the league was not on and we had to train everyday, feed the boys, they showed determination and three months after this is the reward. Those who were in isolation are back and now we can say we have a complete team with a lot of depth and character. I was in tears in Mozambique and tonight it is a different feeling, more special to do it in front of your fans" Mannetti said. Mannetti further stated that the road to next year's continental showpiece in Cameroon is still bumpy, with two matches to go in the qualifying campaign. “We set ourselves a target to get the points and we have 7 points, so it’s not over. We have not qualified yet. We still have to play Guinea Bissau here at home and go to Zambia as well to qualify for the 2019 Afcon tournament” he added. Efforts to get the opinion of the Mozambican coach Abel Xavier about the match proved unsuccessful as he did not avail himself at the organised press briefing. As things stand in Group K, Guinea Bissau are leading the pack with 7 points in the kitty followed by Namibia in second with the same amount of points, Mozambique in third at 4 points and Zambia last with also 4 points to their name with all four countries having played four matches so far.
