The chairperson of the NFA Normalisation Committee, Hilda Basson-Namundjebo, said September is too close to have a substantial coach in place for the FIFA World Cup 2022 African Qualifiers Preliminary round engagement. Her remarks were prompted by the draw that pits Namibia (ranked 121) against Eritrea (ranked 202). The FIFA World Cup 2022 African Qualifiers Preliminary round draw took place in Egypt on Monday. It took place at the Confederation of African Football headquarters in Egypt and saw 24 lowly ranked African teams being put in two different pots and paired together. The matches, which will be played on a home and away basis, are scheduled between the 2nd to the 10th of September 2019. Bobby Samaria is Namibia's caretaker coach for the 2020 African Nations Championship qualifiers as the contract of Ricardo Mannetti expired on the 31st of July. Basson-Namundjebo said it's exciting times fir Namibian Football. "We will apply ourselves as Normalization Committee and when we know who that (permanent person) will be then we will announce that to the Namibian public" she said. In the meantime the position of the head coach will be advertised in August, as well as that of the Brave Gladiators, Technical director, Financial Manager as well as the appeals committee members. Basson-Namundjebo added there are so many vacancies appearing within the NFA and that they are confident to have those positions filled in the shortest time possible. "We have a number of coaches already in the employment of the NFA, whether on contract, whether like a consultant, but in the case of the Brave Warriors, the intention is to get a full time coach like we always had and certainly the Gladiators also need a full time coach" Basson-Namundjebo said. She added that they are serious about development and the only way to do well in Football is if they have a full time coach who has a long term view of where he /she wants to take the team. She concluded by saying that they would like to improve Namibia's international ranking and are working on that. Whether the upcoming performance from the Brave Warriors is anything for the fans to pin their hopes on remains to be seen however, as the team might been exposed to varying training methods from three different coaches within the span of a year if an interim coach will be appointed for the Eritrea game might be challenge to the players to adapt to.
