Johannes and Kondjashi wins the 6th Omaruru Street Mile

Omaruru-Helalia Johannes and Kefas Kondjashi - both from Khomas Region - won the 6th edition of the annual Omaruru Street Mile on Saturday. The event that ultimately had over 1000 participants took place on Saturday. Among the participants at this year's Omaruru Street Mile, were 16 from neighbouring Botswana. As expected, Namibias' queen of long distance, Helalia Johannes, won the women's senior category, with last year's winner Lavinia Haitope coming in second place, and Anna Iipinge in third. The men's category saw defending champion Kefas Kondjashili in the first place, with Rainhold Tomas in the second place. Jeremia Shalixwe managed the 3rd position. The Chief of the Namibia Sport Commission, Freddy Mwiya, said the event was well organised. He urged other regional sport officers to learn from such an event. "It was well organised. We witnessed close to 1000 participants, 16 from our neighbours Botswana. I really have to take my hat off for Karumendu. He is doing very well to promote and develop sport activities in this region" Mwiya explained. On his side the event organisers promised to do more in coming years. "We are happy about the turn out, hopefully by next year we will have more than what we have now, thanks to the sponsors”Karumendu concluded.
