Botswana-Team Namibia started the Confederation of Schools Sports Associations of Southern Africa (Cossasa) Athletics' Championships in Fransistown, Botswana on a positive note after collecting 10 Gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze for a total haul of 22 medals on Day one (Monday). Zimbabwe are second on 26 medals with 9gold, 7silver and 10 Bronze, with hosts Botswana in third with 5 Gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze for a total of 24 medals. First hining bright for Namibia was Carla Schutz in the high jump for Girls U13 with a distance of 1.58m. Also scooping gold on Day 1 was Natalie Louw in the high jump for Girls U17, before she added silver medal to her name in the long jump for Girls U17 in a distance of 5.66m. Still in the field events it was Namibia's Jorinda Fourie who collected another gold in the shot-put for girls U13 in a distance of 10.73m with Leanė Boshoff adding a bronze with a distance of 9.65m. Sade de Souza added another gold for Namibia in the Girls U15 100m. More gold were added in the Boys U17 shot-put with Conrad Kuhn collecting gold with a distance of 15.49m before Janneman Brandt added his name to the gold collectors in shot-put as well in a distance of 36.20m in the Boys U15. Namibia went on by pocketing two more gold through Francois Kotze in the discuss throw and Dirk Theunissen in the javelin throw. With hosts Botswana and Zimbabwe dominating the track events, Namibia will put it's hopes on Ivan Geldenhuys in the 400m final and Sade de Souza in the 200m final for silverware on Day 2 of the championships on Tuesday.
