Namibia obtains 3 medals at Africa Union Sport Council Region 5 Youth Games

The group of 145 athletes that arrived in Botswana on the 15th of December for the Africa Union Sport Council Region 5 Youth Games has so far managed to obtain one silver medal and two bronze medals at the ongoing games. Many of the Namibian teams that have already participated in the 8th edition of the AUSC Region Youth Games started on a bad note, with the Netball team losing 3-1 in their opening match; the women's Football team losing 3-1 against Eswatini and the male Volleyball team being defeated by their opponents South Africa. The hardest defeat to swallow for the group, however, was when the male Football team lost all their scheduled games. But - despite these setbacks - the relay swimming team managed to obtain a silver medal. Two bronze medals also followed by way of the victories through the athletics and judo teams. Currently in Botswana for the Games, Anton Langerman, the Chief of the mission gave NBC Sport an update on the teams as they have now entered the last lap of the tournament. “The spirit in the team is very high, there is coordination and communication and team work and we believe that going forward the results will improve and also that the challenge that we have experienced, the heat is very hot in Botswana, although we don't want to use that as an excuse” Langerman said. Langerman concluded by saying that teams from other sport codes such as boxing and visually impaired athletics are expected to participate during the course of the week.
