The Brave Warriors Squad got an official send-off from the Namibia Sports Commission on Monday, ahead of their 2020 African Nations Championship match against Comoros on Friday. Namibia will once again have to pass the first hurdle of their two legged qualifier against Comoros Island in their quest to qualify for the 2020 African Nations Championship. The CHAN tournament is exclusively for home-based players, and the Namibian team members are hoping to be part of the 15 teams to join host Ethiopia in early 2020 - but to do that they face a Comoros side whom they defeated on their way to qualifying for the 2018 edition, which took place in Morocco. They have been in camp since last Tuesday and the technical team is positive that they can overcome Comoros Island over two legs. “I'm rather optimistic to say that despite the challenges, despite the short space of time, what I've seen at the training from these boys is that they are keen to go and perform. This boys will come back to the shores of Namibia on Sunday morning victorious from Comoros. And I speak for them, when I say that, and echoed also what they are going to give on the pitch, because that's what being a Brave Warrior stands for” Jacobs said. At the official send-off, the technical team and players were accompanied by the Vice Chairperson of the NFA Normalisation Committee, Franco Cosmos. “The team should know that they are our sports ambassadors on and off the field. They should behave as such. Don't be naive, conduct yourself as Namibian Ambassador and know that you do not cause any embarrassment to yourself, your family and the country at large” Cosmos said. The official send-off was officiated by the Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sports Commission, Freddy Mwiya, who told the players to conduct themselves well and be ambassadors for the country. “We really wish you a good journey as you go out there to perform for our country. We look forward for the return leg which will be in Namibia and I know by that time many people will be coming to the stadium to support you. We wish you well” Mwiya said. Namibia reached the quarter final stage in the 2018 edition and the winner over two legs will now take on either Madagascar or Mozambique in the third and final round qualification stage.
