Omaheke U-20 Football ready for the Namibian Newspaper Cup

The Omaheke regional under-20 football team finalised their preparation for this year's edition of the Namibian Newspaper at Gobabis over the weekend and are now ready to face the other teams. The Omaheke regional under-20 team has been working tirelessly, with the aim to impress at this year's The Namibian Newspaper Cup in the Zambezi region during the upcoming Easter weekend. As part of their preparational measures - the team has played friendly matches, including one match against the Omaheke Education regional team this past weekend. That encounter presented the team's technical staff with the opportunity to look for the best combination for the task that awaits them in Katima Mulilo. With a bunch of new faces at their disposal - the team's Head Coach and his assistant seem however not to be too optimistic about the team's chances in the competition. “We have a young team, so far things are going well, but it will not good to say we must expect something big from there, it's a matter of wait and see” said Quinton Witbeen. “Our team is relatively full of youngsters, they are inexperience, but we are going to fight for every ball to get good results this time around. I am appealing to the residents of the region to help the team” Assistant Coach Ewald Zuma Kavirombo Omaheke has enjoyed early glorious years in the Namibian Newspaper Cup, having won the inaugural Namibia Newspaper Cup in 2001, as well in 2002 and 2009 - but since then the region has been struggling to lay their hands on the coveted trophy - something which needs to end as soon as possible according to one of the former player Rasta Mbuende. “We used to win which is not the case. We need to bring together our heads it is time to sit and scratch our head and figure what went wrong in the past years. It’s time to return to winning ways” Mbuende said. The Omaheke under 20 soccer team has been drawn in Group B against host region Zambezi, Erongo and Omusati.
