Qualification only delayed – Mannetti

Windhoek-Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti said Namibia's hopes of qualifying for the 2019 African Cup of Nations are still in tact - although the process will take a bit longer now. Mannetti said this after his side was held to a goalless draw by Guinea Bissau. The Brave Warriors needed to win by two clear goals to book their place in the 2019 African Cup of Nations next year. And although the intent was clear from the start, Petrus Shitembi was the first to be denied by the upright. Later, Ananias Gebhardt's header went off against the post. Guinea Bissau striker Frederic Mendy got a big chance against the run of play, but Virgil Vries came to the Warriors' rescue. The Warriors kept on pushing, with Shalulile as the focal point of the attack. Guinea Bissau's Mendy then found himself unmarked in the box again as this time he failed to find the target. With both teams failing to find the breakthrough, the encounter ended goalless. Brave Warriors Coach Ricardo Mannetti said that he is still hopeful nonetheless. “The boys played very well. It was just not our day we will still stand good chance to qualify the qualification is just delayed” Mannetti said. Guinea Bissau Coach Bicar Cande believes that Namibia will still qualify. “It was a very good game between the two teams, but I think in the end it will be Guinea Bissau and Namibia that will qualify “ Cande said. Namibia will play their final game of the qualifiers away to Zambia in March next year.
