Namibia's Mikka Shonena's strong well-culculated punches were enough to beat Youli Dong from China on points in a unanimous decision at the Ongwediva Trade Fair in the north on Friday night. The fight dubbed the Battle: Namibia vs China under the banner of the MTC Nestor Tobias Sunshine Boxing and Fitness was organised to improve 5th-ranked Shonena's ranking in the WBO welterweight division in his search for a world title fight in future. It was clear from the first bell that the two boxers were going for sweat and blood in the marathon 12 rounder fight in the first ever meeting between the two boxers. The fght exploded in the 3rd round when Dong's strong right jab sent Shonena out of the blue to the floor much to the shock of the fans. But the Namibian thereafter recovered and owned the fight in the next rounds - thanks to the backng of his fans. Shonena's followed up in the fight with three consective jabs that signalled that the writing was on the wall for Dong. With Dong looking tired and his punches becoming weak in the process - it was all Shonena over him until the final bell of the fight. It left nobody wonder at all when all three judges tick the box in Shonena's favour with their card score reading 118-108, 116-111, 115-112. Shonena's promoter Nestor Tobias was over the moon as the road ahead looks bright for his boxer. "He was rated 5th before the fight and we will see how they positioned him. I'm happy" Shonena said. Shonena's record is impressive as he has now 15 out 15 in the professional rank.
