Windhoek - The Women's Football Super League received a sponsorship of N$750 000 on Thursday from Skorpion Zinc at the Namibia Football Association's Girls Centre in Katutura to get the league started. Delivering her keynote address at a special event organised by the NFA women's desk, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service Emma Kantema - Gaomas said she is very proud that Skorpion Zinc as a company decided to invest in the development of the girl child through sport. “It gives me great pleasure to know that the Women's Super League will be active this year, thanks to Skorpion Zinc who came on board and made this possible. As a Ministry we are very proud to have corporate companies in Namibia such as Skorpion Zinc who believe in the development of women through sport. Investments like this will go a long way. As a Ministry that is tasked with promoting sport in Namibia, it is very important for us to make sure that, when such investment comes in place, we help our local organisations in making sure that there will be accountability” Kantema - Gaomas said. The Manager of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Skorpion Zinc, Nora Ndopu, said that the company believes in women's empowerment, which is why they saw it fit to partner with NFA and Sponsor Women's Football. She also explained that their sponsorship is part of Corporate Social Investment. “As a company, it is our corporate responsibility to help develop women in all areas of society including sport. That is why we have decided to invest in the women's super league to make sure that our young girls are given an opportunity to do something they love. I would like to caution the Women Desk at NFA that, Skorpion Zinc doesn't want to be associated with a bad reputation. We want accountability and to make sure that all reports are in place. Let us show the men how women run things” said Ndopu. Secretary General of the Namibia Football Association, Barry Rukoro, advised the girls to take the games seriously and become more competitive as sponsorships like these don't come easy. “I want you to become more competitive in order for you to grow as players. You need to work hard, be disciplined and aim for the top. We are glad that our relationship with Skorpion Zinc has been growing every day for the past five years. They have been sponsoring the Under 17 tournament and here they are with another sponsorship to women's football” Rukoro said. Head of Women's Football at NFA Jacqui Shipanga thanked the media for helping to grow Football in Namibia through positive coverage. Altogether, ten teams will compete for bragging rights this season, with all the games expected to take place at the NFA Technical Centre.
