Windhoek - The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service, Emma Kantema- Gaomas, has called on Namibians to rally behind women football. With an injection of N$1 million into the Women's Super League, Kantema-Gaomas has urged Namibians to come in large numbers and support the Women's Super League, so sponsors can see the need for more investment. “You have advanced what we are advocating in the ministry - to have improved opportunities to participate in professional sport, and to increase employment through sport. Now what is left for us as Namibians is to come in numbers and support the ladies game. We have been crying for sponsorship. The money is here, what is left for us is to prove to the sponsors that this investment is worth it. Let us motivate the players by supporting them." Kantema – Gaomas said. The Women's Super League will see teams from Khomas, Omaheke and Erongo competing for the N$750 000 cash prize sponsored by Skorpion Zinc, while the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) has also availed N$250 000. This is the first time a women's football league in Namibia has received such an amount of money as sponsorship for its administration, as well as for prize monies for the teams. Kantema-Gaomas said women and girls continue to face discrimination in access to sports and inequalities in professional sports. The PS believes that the gesture by the sponsors goes a long way in changing that picture and the overall perception of women in sports. Supporters who make their way to the NFA technical centre will pay four Namibia Dollars for five matches a day.
