Windhoek - The Brave Warriors will take on the Black Stars of Ghana in the 5th edition of the Dr Hage Geingob Cup on the 24th of November in Windhoek. The announcement was made at the Namibia Breweries headquarters on Wednesday. The Dr Hage Geingob Cup, which was established in 2014, saw South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns winning the first three editions of the tournament until 2016. The event that honours Namibia’s current president moved from club football to national football. The 2017 edition thus saw then-COSAFA champions Zimbabwe up against the Brave Warriors, where the home team impressively beat the visitors by three goals to one. The organisers moved it up a notch this year as they invited the 7th ranked team in Africa as they want to give the Warriors as many competitive games as possible. Despite being absent from the launch, Geingob was represented by the Presidential Advisor in Youth Matters and Enterprise Development, Daisy Mathias. “Fellow Namibians, we sometimes fail to honour the people we look up to. Therefore, I want to thank Amos Shiyuka and all the people behind this tournament who are celebrating the life of our living President” Mathias said. Representing Ghana was the high commissioner of that country to Namibia, Elizabeth Forgor, who was very pleased with the opportunity resulting from the upcoming match. “I have a person in my house. I asked her - between Namibia and Ghana, which team will you support? She smiled at me and I told her remember your bread comes from Ghana” Forgor said. The two main sponsors of the event are Namibia Breweries Limited with their brand Tafel Lager and the Mobile Telecommunication giant MTC. The Women’s National under 20 team will take on their under 23 counter parts as a curtain-raiser and the event will be concluded with a music concert that will see the likes of Tate Buti, Gazza, The Dogg, Exit, Tekla and Female Donkey.
