Windhoek -The Welwitschias are back in town after their end of year November tour to Europe, with a good spirit and lessons learned in the bag. The Namibian National side look too take the UK tour as a positive lesson learned rather than a negative one. The rugby side lost two of their three games the past three weekends, however, in a press conference today the team seemed positive about their results. Captain Darryl de la Harpe stated that the results aren’t what they were looking for but under the circumstances they did well. The team faced close to frizzing point temperatures in Russia, and in both Spain and Portugal they were welcomed by showers. ” Our last game we had 38min ball in play, that is to the standards of the All Blacks for instance just to give you an idea and that was our goal, for two years now to get us up to 38 minutes’ ball in play. Our previous standard was 32 minutes against Kenya, so we are getting there and this was a young squad “ De la Harpe said. Also present at the conference was wing Johann Tromp and Prop Desiderius Sethie commenting on their experience during the tour. ”For me , it was enjoyable. I learned a lot from the younger players. Like the saying goes “You are never too old to learn”, even if you’re a senior player, there is always a place or someone that can teach you something “ Tromp said. “Being a young player and this being my first tour, I’m very happy to be part of this team. The culture, the values that I have learned on this tour and I’m looking forward to preparing for the World Cup “ Sethie said. The Strength and Conditioning Coach Sergio de la Harpe added that the boys are still continuing with their training schedules, only having two weeks off during the festive season and are expected to be back in the new year on the 7th of January to continue with their Pre-Season training.
