A press conference was arranged at the airport, where the team was greeted with a loud traditional dance, while members of their families reached out to hug and congratulate them. In his address - Sports Minister Erastus Uutoni reiterated his call to prioritize and provide greater support for all athletes, install a sense of competitiveness and ensure good governance in sporting structures to encourage more athletes to work towards competing in international competitions. “On behalf of the Government I am here to congratulate you the Gold winners and the whole team. I am told our team never withdraw from any event, and that in itself is a plus. Let’s continue working hard to achieve more in future. This is not the end at all” said Uutoni. Johannes and Jonas, who outshone their international competitors in their respective codes, spoke about their tireless efforts to get to where they are now. “I work hard to get this Gold. First i will thank the Almighty for making things easy for me. I cannot forget my training partner, coach, family and friends, they all contributed” Johannes said. “I work extra to get the Gold, because the last time they robbed me. I made more new friends through social media whom i never knew before and they were encouraging me a lot. That let to my success at the end” said the emotional boxer Jonas. Team Namibia secured two Gold medals in total and ended 19th out of 43 countries in the medals ranking at the Games, as well as sixth on the table of African competing countries.
