The annual inflation rate went up by 7,3% last month, translating into a 3,9% increase compared to the same period last year. In August 2021 the inflation rate stood at 3, 4% and a year later that figure jumped to 7,3%. The Namibia Statistics Agency's Consumer Price Index bulletin for August also revealed that every month the inflation rate changed by 0, 3%. The transport and food and non-alcoholic beverages components continued to be the main contributors to the annual inflation rate with a contribution of 3, 3% points and 1, 6% points, respectively. Analysis of the average retail prices of selected products for August 2022 shows that consumers in Khomas Region paid the highest price for white bread at N$12.87 followed by the northern regions at N$12.12, while consumers in Hardap, Omaheke, ||Karas, and Erongo paid the lowest price of N$12.07. For a 750-litre bottle of pure sunflower oil, consumers in |Khomas paid the lowest price at N$40.42, while the highest price was paid by consumers residing in the northern regions at N$41.74.
