A campaign against smuggling of contraband into correctional facilities launched

Safety and Security Minister Charles Namoloh has launched a campaign against smuggling of illegal items into correctional facilities. Major-General Namoloh urged members of the Correctional Service to be exemplary in their service delivery. He was addressing more than 330 correctional officers at a graduation parade at the Julius Mahoto Correctional College on Friday. The wardens graduated after a successful six-month Correctional Service Training at the college, situated at Omaruru in Erongo region. He encouraged the officers to understand and accept their crucial role and contribution to the Criminal Justice System on fostering public safety. He warned the wardens against the smuggling of drugs and cell phones by members of the public into cells through them. General Namoloh stressed that correctional officers were to perform their duty according to the best practices of correctional service. The Omaruru graduation parade was the second for the Namibian Correctional Service, following the first held at Ondangwa in Oshana region in March this year.
