The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation has ordered the Cheetah Cement factory outside Otjiwarongo, to stop operations, this time at the mining area between 18H00 and 06H00 in the morning until it has installed sufficient lighting to ensure safe working conditions. The company is also instructed to stop operating a certain forklift until it is serviced to the satisfaction of a designated Labour Inspector. The order comes just three months after the company’s operations were closed by the same ministry due to non-compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards. Employees of the company have been on strike for a month now demanding better working conditions and increment in benefits. Operations at the company have, however, been continued despite the strike.
