Crop farmers in the flood-prone areas in the Zambezi Region are urged to start wetland cultivation. One of the farmers in the flood-plains, Raphael Mbala, says wetland cultivation is a good source of food security. Mbala farms at his village in Muzii area in the Kabbe South Constituency. He appealed to the Agriculture, Water and Forestry Ministry to avail ploughing material to communal farmers in the flood-prone area. He said many Kabbe South and North residents try to practice wetland farming, but lack resources. Mbala encouraged wetland farmers to plant early and use the short variety to avoid the flooding of their crops. Wetland farming is practiced in flood-prone area after the floods have subsided. The crops do not survive on rain, but on the wetland in the valley.
