The City of Windhoek and the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) firefighting teams are busy trying to put out a fire raging between Omeya and Groot Aub. According to Senior Station Officer at the Windhoek Emergency Management Division, Filupus Sikongo, a strong south-easterly wind managed to push the fire across the B1 main road and the firefighting team has since divided themselves into two groups in an effort to contain the fire on both sides of the road. Sikongo says the firefighters have so far managed to prevent the fire from reaching residences at Omeya. Residents of Omeya and Groot Aub, together with the marshall rangers and farm owners, are also at the scene assisting in putting out the fire to prevent it from getting to farms and other private residences. The fire started in the area around Oamites which is on the southern side of Omeya.
