#FISHROT | Phillipus Mwapopi's bail application continues

The hearing of the bail application by six of the men charged in the #Fishrot fraud and corruption scandal has resumed in the Windhoek High Court this morning. The hearing resumes with the cross-examination of Fishrot accused Phillipus Mwapopi. Phillipus Mwapopi, one of 10 suspects in the Fishrot corruption saga, has denied allegations facing him, saying they are merely a "misunderstanding" and are unlikely to keep him in prison when the trial ends. During his cross-examination by state attorney Cliff Lutibezi before High Court Judge Shafimana Ueitele, Mwapopi denied he forms part of a criminal syndicate that allegedly misappropriated N$317 million in dodgy fishing deals involving fishing parastatal, Fishcor. He stands accused of having received N$4,2 million to deliver dried fish to Fishcor for a drought relief program, which according to Lutibezi, were never delivered in June 2016. Lutibezi also claims Mwapopi's acquaintance, Mike Nghipunya who then served as Fishcor CEO, allegedly owns secret shares in Wanakadu Investment, which provided the dried fish. The bail hearing continues.
