Five people were arrested yesterday at Lwanyanda Informal Settlement and are expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate's Court today (Friday). They are facing various charges including obstructing police officers in the execution of their duties, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, interference in police duties, common assault and assault by threat. The arrests were made yesterday after a High Court order to evict and demolish illegal structures at the informal settlement resulted in the residents retaliating and attacking members of the police force. According to the Police, several officers were injured three of whom suffered serious injuries and received treatment. The five arrested, four Namibians and one Zambian national, some of whom are members of the pressure group are being detained at the Katima Mulilo Police Station.
