Marco Fishing employees strike after failed wage negotiations

Employees of Marco Fishing Company in Luderitz are on strike following failed wage negotiations for seagoing as well as factory workers. Employees are asking for salary increment, housing and transport allowance, among other demands. The company declined to heed the call, citing the effect of COVID-19 on the financial status of the company but the workers contend their call was overlooked years before COVID-19 adding that it should never be an excuse as the company was fully operational during the state of emergency. Employees are represented by the Namibia Food and Allied Workers' Union (NAFAU) and have vowed never to leave the site until their demands are met.
