The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has discontinued the use of the Sputnik V vaccine in the national vaccination programme with immediate effect until it receives the WHO Emergency Use Listing. In a media statement, the ministry's Executive Director Ben Nangombe however said people who received the first dose will be offered their second dose to complete the vaccination schedule. The discontinuation is being done out of an abundance of caution that men who receive Sputnik V may be at higher risk of contracting HIV when exposed to it, says Nangombe.
