The Swakopmund Road Block recorded a high number of outbound vehicles. Early on, outbound vehicles were counted at a rate of 162 per 15 minutes - translating to an average of 600 per hour. That number would grow to about 800 per hour by the early afternoon, according to the MVA's Senior Manager for Accident and Injury Prevention. Despite traffic congestion, vehicle fitness and tyre pressure checks remained in place. The MVA cautioned anyone still on the road, to remain alert.
