The popular Hangana Hake Run and Ride, which was scheduled for October this year, has officially been cancelled. It is the first time in the event's 37-year history that it will not take place. The decision to cancel the event came after Hangana Seafood, the organisers of the Hangana Hake Run Ride, made the decision to cancel the 2020 edition scheduled for the 3rd of October in Walvis Bay. In light of the recent spike in Covid-19 positive cases in Namibia, and especially Walvis Bay, they said that the event organizers cannot ignore the reality of the times we live in. Their biggest priority remains the health and safety of the participants, the protection of staff, volunteers, suppliers, and the broader coastal community. The organizers also said that they apologised for any inconvenience that this decision may have caused, but trust that all stakeholders and participants will have an understanding of the responsibility everybody shares. The Hangana Hake run and ride event is also a qualifier for the Two Oceans and Comrades marathons, which were both cancelled this year. Last year's edition of the Hake Run and Ride drew a record number of athletes from Namibia and abroad, with more than 1000 runners and riders competing.
