Athletes warned against doping during COVID-19 upcoming winter

The Namibia National Olympic Committee's doping and education officer Jason Snyders has come out to warn athletes against banned substances as Namibia enters its winter season. Jason Snyders serves on a sub committee of the Namibia National Olympic Committee. His responsibilities are to educate local athletes on anti doping programmes and to conduct tests on Namibian athletes. His actions are in line with the World Anti-Doping Agency, which monitors anti-doping activities globally to ensure proper implementation of and compliance with the World's Anti-Doping Code. Snyders is aware of the challenges that athletes are facing at the moment and thus urges all of them to stay safe and true to their sport codes. "We are entering our winter season and as we all know it's flu season. COVID-19 makes it worse and I would just like to tell the athletes to make sure that whatever you take or drink or whatever you do is within the WADA limits. Snyders said. He advised athletes to make sure not to comsume anything that is on the prohibited list or anything that WADA otherwise does not recommend at this time. " If you need to take prescriptions, go on to the website. Make sure that it's not on the list. If it's for your health and you need to take it. Pleas fill in a Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE) with your doctor, send it through to WADA so they can approve it for you to be safe" he said. He warned the athletes to stay clean as they can still conduct random doping tests. If the medication an athlete is required to take to treat an illness or condition happens to fall under the Prohibited List, a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) may give that athlete the authorization to take the needed medicine.
