BA, Gunners dominate NPL log

Black Africa and Mighty Gunners are looking to turn the Namibia Premier League into a two horse race, considering that both teams are tied on 20 points after nine games played so far. Black Africa remain on top on the Namibia Premier League table, despite dropping two points against Tura Magic. BA have a better goal difference compared to the second placed Mighty Gunners, as the army team beat Eleven Arrows at home by two goals to one to move closer to BA. The two top teams are seven points clear from the third team on the table and are seemingly determined to settle this fight between themselves. The other Otjiwarongo based team Life Fighters is in third place with 13 points. Fighters are joined by Rundu based Julinho Sporting, Tigers and Eleven Arrows on 13 points, but the Otjiwarongo based team have the better goal difference compared to the other three clubs. Citizens who drew against Fighters over the weekend dropped three places from fourth to seventh. Tura Magic complete the top half of the table after collecting 11 points in nine games played. Magic are equal on points with Karasburg based Young Brazilians who lost their game against Civics in the capital. Gobabis based Young African will be looking over their shoulders as they are stuck on 8 points after losing to Tigers. Civics’ first win of the season took them from the basement of the table to 12th position with the same number of points as UNAM who are in 11th. African Stars need to refocus their attention on the league after they were knocked out of the CAF Confederations Cup by Raja Casablanca. Stars are just above the relegation zone on 6 points after 4 games, but the good thing for the Champions is that they have 5 games in hand to try and catch up with the teams on the top of the table. Blue Waters have dropped in to the bottom three after failing to collected any points in the derby match against Arrows, and so they are on six points. Okahandja United are also on six points and they are still looking for their first victory of the season. The Katutura giants are in unfamiliar territory after they lost their seventh game against Julinho Sporting. Pirates’ defence is the major concern, as they conceded 19 goals – more than anybody else in the Premier League.
