The Basketball Artists School hosted a fun exercise programme at the B.A.S basketball court in Katutura, in celebration of the International Olympic Day on Tuesday. Several well-known athletes were also in attendance to celebrate with B.A.S students. Introduced in 1948, the International Olympic Day's goal is to promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. Speaking at the event ,NNOC Secretary-General Joan Smit provided attendees with some historical background information. “The Olympic movement was founded on the 23 June 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin and ever since it has grown very strong so every year. We celebrate all 206 member countries” Smit said. In addition to the Basketball Artist School students, a few athletes also joined the fun activities. “Celebrating the Olympic it's the ultimate goal, going to the Olympics as an athlete so it's a day to think about how to get there and refocus” Miller said. Vorster said“It means a lot, I learned different exercises that we have done here today with our fellow athletes”. With most of Namibia's regions moving from stage 3 to stage 4 of the State of Emergency, athletes present at B.A.S expressed relief that the remaining sports codes can now finally return to activity and embrace the new normal.
