This weekend, the Basketball Artists School celebrated its 10th anniversary themed "Changing Lives". The event focused on basketball, life skills, education as well as presentations on leadership and fun activities and games opposite the Katutura Sports Complex in Windhoek. The 10th-anniversary celebration that started on Friday marks a great milestone for the foundation, which came from humble beginnings to bring this school project this far. The Basketball Artists School was founded by Frank Albin to help children get an education while actively participating in basketball with the help of tutors and volunteers. Speaking at the event invited Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service Erastus Uutoni commented on the foundation's management as well as on the German Embassy's continued support. “The Namibian government through the ministry of Sport , Youth and National services thus remain committed to the development of sport in the country, I urge you to always work together as a team to develop Basketball by reaching out to all fourteen regions of this country” Uutoni said. NBC sport also caught up with the Basketball Artists School chairperson Vetumbuavi Veii who highlighted a few achievements over the past ten years. “Through this program, we have managed to get five of our children to the university and that is really an achievement in its self-given the background of the children” Veii said. NBC also checked in with Basketball Artists School director Ramah Mumba. “One of the objectives is to make sure that they become something in their lives., as most of them come from disadvantaged family” Mumba said. The event continued with a couple of basketball tournaments as well as an opportunity for kids to meet their beneficiaries and sponsors as they exchanged ideas on the future of the foundation.
