With the first games in the 2019/2020 coastal limited overs series having kicked off on Sunday, two games were scheduled, but only one was played. It was the Blue Waters outfit that started off their campaign in the sixth round with a win by beating Sparta Cricket Club’s second team, by four wickets. In an overall low-scoring encounter played at the Sparta Cricket grounds in Walvisbay, Sparta’s second team batted first but only managed to score 106 runs, and at the end were bowled out in 30.1 overs. It was a one man show by the batsman of Sparta Wynand Zwart, who got up to a few significant runs. Zwart scored 78 runs from 78 balls faced, and no other batsman in the Sparta team managed to score more than five runs. The main destroyer on the bowling side off Blue Waters was Vincent Murapo, taking four wickets for 20 runs. In their reply to the run chase, Blue Waters got the needed runs in 25.2 overs. Blue Waters lost six wickets in the chase, but good batting performances by Justus Hangula with 20 runs, Matthew Gouveia, 37 runs, and Calaca with 21 runs, made the needed target look small. On the bowling side off Sparta, Helmut Mack and Jurie Engelbrecht were the two best bowlers in the team, each taking two wickets. The other encounter that was scheduled to be played between Sparta’ s first team and JCCA, was cancelled due to bad field preparations, and will be re-scheduled to be played on the different date. Sparta’s first team still leads the log standing with 12 points, followed by Junior Coastal Cricket Academy on eight points, with Blue Waters taking up the third spot, also on eight point. The league will continue this coming weekend with two games in Outjo.
