The Brave Warriors are back at work in preparation for the 2020 African Nations Championship that will be hosted by Cameroon. The Warriors last played on the 18th of November last year, when they lost to Guinea in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers. Most of the CHAN players were not part of that game, as local based players were last in action on the 9th of November 2019 in the DR Hage Geingob Cup. They have not kicked a ball since then, but Coach Bobby Samaria believes they have enough time to get up to speed. “The Normalization Committee have approached sponsors they have given them a budget to see how they can assist us you see everybody has the financial problems is important for us to make use of the little we have” Samaria said. A grave concern for the Brave Warriors is the match fitness of the players - something the team is very aware of. “We envisage taking the team to the regions like we did when we qualified for CHAN. Those game were really an eye opener and we should try to it. It served the purpose and it helped us. We hope the tour that we are going to undertake will give us the same, if it not more” Samaria said. The 2020 CHAN competition is scheduled to start in April and coach Samaria says even if the league starts now it will not help his team “It will do more damage if the league starts now, because the league will take players away from the national team and as much as we want to start with the league I think time should be given for proper planning” he said. Samaria added new faces to the squad and according to him they are not there to make up numbers but to fight for their positions. The draw for the 2020 CHAN is expected to be conducted on the 17th of this month. In the meantime, the warriors will be touring around the country and play against the regional teams for match fitness.
