COVID 19 disrupts HOPSOL youth league

The HopSol Youth League has been suspended until further notice, in line with President Geingob's call for a State of Emergency and lockdown of the region due to the spread of COVID-19. The HopSol Youth league is a soccer league that was established in 2016 in the Khomas region. It caters for the age groups of under 9 up to under 19. In an interview with NBC Sport, the manager of the Hopsol Youth league and former Brave Warriors player Collin Benjamin said management has decided to postpone all league activities until the end of the lockdown and State of Emergency. "The Hopsol Soccer league just played two matchdays when it was declared a world pandemic. One can't really say the players were prepared for that. We had to adhere to rules by stopping the league. It is definitely a serious situation and we need to adhere to rules" Benjamin narrated. NBC Sport also inquired whether all players are indeed aware of the danger posed by the pandemic. "The girls and boys definitely know what the pandemic all about and also know about the precautions to take not contract the virus. They know that they need to keep hygiene, to wash their hands and they need to keep safe. Social distancing is definitely key "Benjamin said. Another former Brave Warriors player, Alfred Ndyenge, urged young and old to protect themselves from COVID-19 at all times. "I'm joining the call to fight to COVID-19 in the world, in particular, Namibia my beloved country. My message is to keep our hands clean, because it starts with our hands. Keep the hands clean by washing with soap and running water or use alcoholic sanitisers to always keep them fresh. Stay at home keep calm and say no to COVID-19" Ndyenge said. Benjamin added that the pandemic does not know class or race, and thus it is better to adhere to the rules in place to save lives.
