The Desert Jewels Senior Netball team received national colours from Namibia Sports Commission Chief Administrator Freddy Mwiya on Wednesday. They were also given a sponsorship by Debmarine Namibia - worth half a million Namibia dollars. The Desert Jewels are going to participate in the M1 Singapore six-nations Netball Championship between the 20th and the 26th of this month. Since 2017, Demarine has been the main sponsor of the National team, this time around contributing flight tickets uniforms and other necessities. "Nothing brings us greater joy as employees of Debmarine Namibia, than to be at occasions like this today. We are certainly not immune to the current economic challenges locally and globally in the diamond market, but supporting women and girls is not just the right thing to do, it is a business imperative to us"Mertens, Acting CEO of Debmarine said. The aim of the championship is for the National team to improve their ranking as they are now 32nd in the World. "Debmarine Namibia as part of the greater De Beer's Group made commitment to "Stand with Women and Girls" and this is one example where we are showing our commitment" he said. The team will departed on Thursday to play their first match on the 20th of this month when they face host country Singapore in the opening encounter.
