Diergaardt appointed as caretaker coach of NRU

UNAM Rugby club coach Johan Diergaardt has been appointed as caretaker coach of the Namibia Rugby Union, effective from Tuesday the 12th of November. This was confirmed to the NBC Sport desk by the President of the NRU Corrie Mensah telephonically on Friday. Diergaardt's appointment follows the resignation of coach Phil Davis shortly after the national team's 6th World Cup participation in Japan. Diergaardt is no stranger to the union as he has previously served in this position. Meanwhile, Irvin Newman has been appointed as the team manager, with Sergio de La Harpe as the strength and conditioning coach. The three will take the national team through the pre-season programme in preparation for the Super Sport Challenge next year. They will serve in this position until the NRU finalizes the process of the appointment of permanent staff. The positions, according to Mensah, will then be advertised in due course.
