Dr Phamotse denies AUSC region 5 Maseru 2020 youth games rumours

The minister of gender and youth, sports and recreation, Dr Mahali Phamotse denied the rumours that construction of the AUSC region 5 Maseru 2020 youth games facilities has been cancelled. She said Lesotho will be the host of these games scheduled for September this year. The minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation, Dr. Mahali Phamotse, said the only thing that is true in all of this, is that the ministry of finance's decision to cancel the agreement reached to engage a financier for the building of these facilities not the actual building process nor the games in general. "It is not correct to say the building construction has been cancelled. This is because the construction is still underway throughout the hands of the constructors we as the ministry engaged on behalf of the government of Lesotho. Basotho should understand that, the only thing that has been cancelled as per the minister of finance's report to the parliament is the agreement with the financer of the construction " Phamotse said. Meanwhile, Phamotse indicated that even though there is little time left before the games, the latest construction technology allows contractors to build within a short period of time, therefore, all that is needed is an investor that meets the requirements of the agreement with the ministry of finance. She further said that these games will benefit Basotho and the youth in particular as they will leave legacies and create job opportunities. "With the use of the latest construction technology, the project will reach completion. By November the buildings should be officially opened, but this can only happen if we as a nation stop fighting " she added. The AUSC region 5 Maseru 2020 youth games will be hosted by Lesotho in December 2020 and among the participating member states are Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Eswatini and South Africa among others.
