Namibia Football Association President Ranga Haikali said they don't want to make commitments regarding the beneficiaries of the FIFA COVID-19 relief funds, as they have not yet received the money. Haikali made these remarks in response to a letter written to the association by a group of concerned players. A group of concerned players came together after they found the Namibia Football Players Union offices temporarily closed and decided to take matters into their own hands. After a peaceful demonstration earlier this year, the group wrote to the Namibian Football Association's Executive Committee, asking that Namibia Premier League players be considered in the FIFA COVID 19 relief funds. The players expressed their disappointment with NFA President Ranga Haikali's statement in the local media, which indicated that NPL players would not be beneficiaries of the fund. Haikali acknowledged that the committee received the players' letter. “I will repeat. The NFA and even the FIFA Constitutions are clear. We must not have sporting contact with suspended members. How are we going to work out this one?. Haikali said. African Stars midfielder Alfeus Handura, one of the players who signed the letter, was upset by the President's explanation. “How can the NFA president say they are not allowed to engage with a suspended member, but they calling the NPL players for national duty for the Brave Warriors games. How is that possible? Handura asked. On his part, Tigers midfielder Manfred Kazondume explained that even though the NPL players are not all equally affected by COVID-19, they have a right to approach the mother body. “The NFA is our grandmother NPL is our mother, If NPL is not helping us where should we go, We must go to our grandmother. If the grandmother is not helping, then she is not good” Kazondume said. Haikali explained that they understand the players' concerns but that the money is not here and thus that they do not want to get into commitment issues, as to how the money will eventually be distributed.
