The first-ever fun bike and quad enduro was recently held at the coast for professionals, as well as weekend warriors. The event was organised to aid a ten-year-old boy from the coast with cerebral palsy, and all the money raised from the event will thus be used for his stem cell surgery, in India, Mumbai. The Fun Enduro was held outside Walvisbay in the desert, and saw a total of 37 riders entering in a mix of bikes and quads races. There were three classes that the riders could enter in, namely: A class - professionals, B class - weekend warriors and C class - weekend warriors. The riders had to cover a total lap distance of 37 km on hard gravel roads as well as in the dunes. The class A riders rode two laps, with a third one optional, while the B and C class also had to finish two laps of the course with a third lap being optional. At the end of the day, few of the original riders who started off did not finish the race, but had a good day out in the desert nonetheless. Due to the fact that this was a fun enduro event, and not an actual race, all riders were awarded with bike medals and bike stickers to remember the day. The organizers said that that this was the first funduro and some unforeseen expenses occurred on the day, ultimately limiting the amount of funds raised. The hope is to have at least 100 bikers attending the next event and the wish is to raise N$ 25 000.
