Hamunyela Various NPL clubs hit out at committee decisions

The decision by the Namibia Premier League to start the new season with only 13 teams next month was criticized by an Executive Committee member of the league and some of the member clubs during a media press conference in Windhoek on Thursday. Speaking at the NFA Girls Centre - an Executive Committee member of the NPL Victor Hamunyela hit out at the league's decision to relegate the three bottom teams Civics, Orlando Pirates and Young African. That decision has arguably led to an issue of great disagreement between the league and the NFA, despite the announcement by the mother body that no teams would be relegated or promoted in the upcoming season. “I publicly announce that I am not party to such action of NPL to declare dispute against legitimate” Hamunyela said. The other issue Hamunyela observed is the way the league handled the issue of Young African football. “The decision of the Disciplinary Committee on Young African was not implemented as decided as the points forfeited benefited a wrong team as oppose to what the decision reads” Hamunyela added. According to Hamunyela - the time has also come for the league's Chairman Patrick Kauta to relinquish his position as his stay will put the league's image in disrepute. Hamunyela said “I humbly request you to resign, as you have cause divisions within the NPL and overall you have no mandate from the second highest decision making” Meanwhile, another press conference by eight- member clubs of the NPL followed suit at the same venue in which they distanced themselves from the recent NPL Executive Committee meeting that took a decision to place an appeal against the work of the NFA Normalisation Committee. “As members of the NPL Board of Governors, we have put it on record that as members were not consulted and it was done ultra viro, by the Executive Committee” Nicky Kasilipile Spokesperson of 8 NPL Clubs said. The eight teams who opposed the NPL Exco's decision are Tigers, Citizens, Civics, Black Africa, Mighty Gunners, Orlando Pirates, Young African and Julinho Sporting
