Jonas and Johannes presents medals to President Geingob

Windhoek-Namibia's two medal collectors at this year's Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, Jonas Junias Jonas and Helalia Johannes presented their medals to President Hage Geingob in Windhoek on Wednesday. The delegation was led by Minister Uutoni, his deputy Agnes Tjongarero, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Emma Kantema-Gaomas, Director of Sport Shivute Katamba and officials from the Namibia Sports Commission who introduced both the Commonwealth Games heroes Jonas Junius Jonas and Helalia Johannes to the Head of State. Jonas won gold in boxing while Johannes achieved the same feat in the women's marathon. The President could not hide his happiness about the two's outstanding achievement that put the country's name on the world map. "We are proud of two of our citizens one a lady and one a man when to participate in the commonwealth games and they said we are from the land of the brave we are not going to settle for silver or bronze. Either we get gold or nothing. So both of them very remarkable they've got gold" President Geingob said. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Emma Kantema-Gaomas also updated the President on some of the key programmes they have been embarking on. “Your Excellency we have identified three strategic objectives that we would like to undertake in order to take us to where we want to be and we have identified a pillar on sport development where we promote sport in terms of mass participation at regional sports development progarmmes" said Kantema-Gaomas. The meeting also share with the President some of the challenges the Ministry is facing in implementing their programmes and plans and while looking at what interventions they can come up with to counter the challenges.
