Gold Coast-Namibian boxer Jonas Junias Jonas officially qualified for the men's 64kg boxing final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia after beating England's Luke McCormack in the early hours of Friday. There was only one thing on his mind when he faced the young English man Luke McCormack in the early hours of today and that was to reach the final. It was a fight that the Namibian controlled from the onset to the end with his through-out calculated punches, and speed doing all the talking in the ring. Despite trying all the tricks in the book, McCormack was no match to Jonas. The English merely managed not to go down to the canvas. Jonas' telling punches were spot on and unavoidable as was seen by the judges, who in the end ruled in his favour. With all other Namibian boxers at the Games eliminated, Namibia's hopes for a gold medal in the discipline are surely left in the hands of Jonas on Saturday morning, when he takes on Thomas Blumenfeld of Canada. Reaching the final means that Namibia is assured already of a silver medal, despite the ultimate goal of getting a gold if Jonas wins on Saturday. Namibia is taking part in athletics, bowls, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, Para-sports and triathlon at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which end on Sunday.
