The Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sports Commission, Freddy Mwiya, revealed that planning for the second edition of the National Youth Games will start as the LOC is set to meet, with the possibility of a new venue to be announced. Mwiya shared this in a sit down with nbc sport. With a new three-year sponsorship of 1.8 million Namibia Dollars from MTC in place, Freddy Mwiya said that the sponsorship has come just at the right time as it will ease some of the burden towards the cost. The National Youth Games were initially set to take place in Swakopmund, but due to the present situation concerning COVID-19 in the Erongo region, the Local Organising Committee is looking at alternative venues. The LOC will also meet to work on logistics and planning while it will give the regions time to finalise their team selection and preparation. “Planning will definitely start from now onwards and I know this week we are meeting with the LOC and then we start making plans. Our plans will also be determined by troika decision, because for arguments sake if troika say the Games are taking place next year that gives us ample time. Than we are going to draw the data base on the date that will be set to host our games” Mwiya said. The National Youth Games will likely attract about 1 800 athletes from across the country competing in more than 10 different codes.
