Local companies donate towards National Youth Games

Windhoek-As Namibia readies to host the first-ever National Youth Games, scheduled to take place from the 10th to the 13th of May, local companies continue to pledge generously towards the event. The latest company to get behind the local sporting spectacle is NamPower. The national power utility company on Thursday unveiled a sponsorship worth 250-thousand Namibia Dollars. Other sponsors are Coca-Cola, Namibia Breweries, Meatco and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). Together, they have brought the total sponsorship to 820-thousand Namibia Dollars in the form of cash donations and in kind, as a way to help the Organising Committee with preparations. Since the Games are part of an initiative of the Namibia Sports Commission, the Government is also expected to invest hugely in the Games. Speaking at the hand-over ceremony, Sport Minister Erastus Uutoni said the sponsorship will help ensure a successful event. “Allow me to express my sincere gratitude to corporate Namibia through the companies who came on board to aid the Commission in assuring the hosting and success of these Games” Uutoni said. NamPower 's Marketing Officer Martha Shifotoka explained that the sponsorship was part of the company's Corporate Social Investment. “We will continue to shows our commitment to sport and in Namibia's youth.These games are very important to this country as they are the first” she said. All regions have so far confirmed their participation in Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Judo, Netball, Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball and Soccer.
