Moses Loses WBO Lightweight title challenge to Beltran

Paulus 'The Hitman' Moses lost his World Boxing Organisation world title fight in a unanimous decision to Ray Beltran in Reno, Nevada in the early hours of Saturday morning. Moses, 39, went into the fight as the underdog but was not fazed by making his debut in the United States at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada. Beltran started the fight strong, but Moses did not give in and came up with some good punches. Both fighters landed a good amount of clean shots. Moses would throw some accurate punches throughout the bout and with that displayed tremendous resolve to Beltran's most powerful punches. A right hand by Moses buckled Beltran's legs early in the ninth round. A resilient Beltran, however, came back later in the ninth round to land several power punches of his own. As both boxers showed resilience and never say die attitude, it was a case of only the strongest will be the last man standing. AND, ultimately it was Beltran who after twelve closely contested rounds claimed the vacant WBO lightweight title at his fourth attempt. Of the 687 punches that the Mexican threw, 197 landed, while the Namibian threw 622 punches of which only 159 landed. With this defeat, Moses who turns 40 years old in June, now has a record of 40 wins (25 by knockout), four defeats (one coming via a knockout), and one no contest from 45 fights.
