MTC Sunshine Academy takes Boxing to Ongwediva

The MTC Sunshine Boxing Academy is set to host a WBO regional title fight dubbed “The Battle: Namibia vs China”. The boxing tournament is scheduled to take place on the 24th of August in Ongwediva at the Trade Fair hall, with the main bout scheduled between Mikka Shonena and Youli Dong from China. This was revealed at a press conference held in the capital on Wednesday. The boxing tournament will start with nine undercards as the main focus is on Harry Simon Junior who will battle against his Zimbabwean opponent Philip Musariri in the Junior Welterweight international fight in 8 rounds. Speaking at the event was guest of honor, the Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service Erastus Uutoni. Uutoni praises the boxing Academy and MTC for their great efforts. "I want to thank the Nestor Sunshine and also MTC for working together as Namibians to ensure that sport in the country is moving" Uutoni said. In the main bout Shonena and Dong will be fighting for the WBO Africa, WBO Asia pacific Welterweight title over 12 rounds. Currently, Shonena is ranked number 5, while Youli Dong is ranked number 15 in the world rankings. At the media briefing, Nester Tobias said that he’s proud to take boxing to the North as boxing is not only for Khomas but should include the whole country. "Boxing is for everybody, MTC is for everybody that is why when we talk about Namibia we don’t just talk Windhoek, but Namibia as a whole country, that’s why we are taking boxing all over the country so there are no discriminations to anyone" Tobias said. The men of the hour Mikka Shonena, is confident about his winning chances saying there’s nothing to fear. "For me, there is nothing bothering me, I’m ready for him. It's s our guy and I’m going to iron this guy" Shonena said. The boxing tournament is scheduled to take place on the 24th of August in Ongwediva at the Trade Fair hall as of 18h00.
