Muller hopeful to still compete internationally this year

Local Kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu star Delano Muller is hopeful to still compete internationally this year, after all Kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu competitions have been cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. Winning both the Abu Dhabi Pro International Jiu-Jitsu Championship and the Abu Dhabi Pro Continental Jiu-Jitsu Championships in 2019, as well as the Featherweight world championship belt in kickboxing at the Battle of Atlanta World Championships, Delano Muller hopes to compete in international events later this year. The young sportsman is currently ranked number one in the world and got a special invitation to take part in the Abu Dhabi World Championships in April already, which was unfortunately also cancelled. Talking about the lock down and travel restrictions, Muller explained that it did not affect his kickboxing career immediately, but that he had to rethink his whole training programme to motivate himself. “It has been a big impact on my sport, since I can’t compete due to the virus. I still try to train at home to keep fit” Muller said. Muller also said that it takes discipline not to be affected by the bombardment of negative news, and instead find innovative and positive ways of training with what is available. “To the kick boxers, just keep on training your techniques at home, go through it practice it ten thousand times and perfect it. You can start going for jogging, getting fit. Keep on working on your techniques that’s the most important thing” he said. Muller encourages people to practice at home and keep to the restrictions that are in place.
