The Chief Executive Officer of Cricket Namibia, Johan Muller, is hopeful that the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup scheduled for Australia in October this year will go ahead as planned. Johan Muller said that the 2020 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place between October and November is an ideal opportunity for the players to showcase their talent on the global stage. With most big sporting events having to be cancelled or postponed, cricket has been no exception with the T20 World Cup one of those tournaments still at high risk of being postponed. However Muller said that they haven't changed their plans and that preparations are still underway, explaining that they are in constant contact with ICC. “Yes we have engaged with the ICC quite regularly and at this stage it is still scheduled for October in Australia and they are looking at various ways to make it happen. It might be that there's a quarantine period just prior or it might also be that every player needs to be tested when they arrive. Those are the options that they are reviewing for the World cup and they don't really want to move it. I think that is great for us " Muller said. Asked whether international matches that had been scheduled for this year are a concern, Muller reiterated that nothing has changed. “What we know is that nothing is cancelled so none of our International tournaments have got cancelled its, I think our country is really desperate for some International content and if we can do it via just a change in programme than so much better " Muller added. An ICC board meeting is scheduled for the 10th if June where any decisions over the tournament will be made.
