Naimhwaka gets 2nd term as Athletics President

Erwin Naimhwaka has been re-elected as the president of Athletics Namibia after a special congress was held in Windhoek on Saturday. The new leadership of Athletics Namibia - comprising of 13 members - will lead the federation until 2024. The members amended the constitution to make the structure smaller and cut down from 21 executive members to 13. The streamlined structure is intended to make Athletics Namibia more efficient and focused on the core activities of athletics, according to a press release by Naimhwaka. It further revealed that they represent the necessary continuous introspection necessary by any organisation to remain relevant and effective in their environment and circumstances they find themselves in. Responding to what changes he would like to implement, Naimhwaka said: “During the first term we focused on transforming the structure and to make it effective. The lean structure, which is focused on the core business of athletics, will make us effective and efficient”. He added that, “our focus during the new term will be expanded and we are also intensifying our competitions in the three areas, Track Field, Road Running and Cross Country. The focus will be on ensuring competitive local events, which will create a base of competitive athletes that can compete with our regional and continental peers as well as internationally” he said. “We will also focus on making sure that by the end of our term all the fourteen regions of Namibia are active in athletics and members of the athletics family in Namibia “he concluded. The new leadership looks as follows: President – Mr Erwin Naimhwaka (retained); Vice President – Mr Leon Nienaber (new); Secretary General – Ms Madeleine Kotze (retained); Finance Secretary – Ms Leorine Waggie (retained); Track Field Secretary – Mr Bethold Karumendu (new); Road Running Secretary – Mr Robert Kaxuxuena (retained); Cross Country and Mountain Running Secretary – Mr Remigius Iiyambo (new); Officials Secretary – Ms Corlia Maritz (new); Coaching Secretary – Mr Louis Cloete (retained); Selection Secretary – Mr Modestus Mwiila (retained); Publicity Secretary – Mr Edward Kapewasha (new); Medical and Anti Doping Secretary – Mr Charlton Rickerts (retained).
