NAMDIA joined the MTC Knockout Project on Wednesday, by pledging 50 thousand Namibia dollars towards the "celebrity boxing for change" event, set for next month. The MTC Knockout Project will see a total of 20 local celebrities putting on their boxing gloves in awareness of gender-based violence. A total of ten fights are scheduled for the evening and today NAMDIA joined the exciting project by becoming official sponsors of Luis Munana, who will be fighting under the NAMDIA brand. At Wednesday’s announcement of their involvement, the acting CEO of Namibia's diamond giants Sven Von Blottnitz said that they are happy to be part of the project. “We all know that we have to do much to respond to the cries for justice of women and children who have suffered violence. We have to do more to end these horrible abuses and the impunity that allows these human rights violations to continue. Educating the public and encouraging the public is a stepped in the right direction. We urge all Namibians to join hands and stop violence against women and children. Von Blottnitz said. Mobile Telecommunications giants MTC, who are the project coordinators, were represented by its Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer,Tim Ekandjo, who has been the driving force behind the initiative. “You know what I like about what Sven said, is he did not speak about Boxing, He spoke about the purpose of the event and this is what we are struggle with so many corporates. When we go and introduce this initiative to them. They would say to you, we don't sponsor Boxing. This is not a boxing event it is more than just a boxing event. It is a message that we sending about gender base violence and we wish there are more companies who think like you" Ekandjo said. On his part, NAMDIA sponsored Luis Munana said when he first heard about the boxing he was very skeptical but was eventually persuaded by the bigger picture. He believes that gender-based violence against women is a sad reality that needs to be fought head-on. Most of us are keyboard warriors as in they on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram typing about let's stop gender base violence, Let's make a change and so forth, but people don't actually stand up and actually come forward and make a change. So this is an initiative that is going to make a change towards the fight against gender base violence, so off course I have to say yes" Munana said. The MTC Knockout Project is set for 12th October at Windhoek Country Club Resort and corporate Namibia is urged to join the fight against gender-based violence by sponsoring a personality.
