Namibia hosted a successful 3rd edition of the African Kyokushin International training and championship over the weekend, with the host country dominating the junior and neighboring Zimbabwe the senior categories. The one-day karate training and championship was preceded by a colourful dinner and awards ceremony a night before the actual event. The long line of speakers included Indian master Imtaz Abdullah Imtaz who is the president of Kyokushin Karate Africa. He spoke highly of efforts being put in the upliftment of the sport on the continent. “Every the most important thing is to develop your character, because if you don’t have good character then you cannot be a good Karatika” Abdullah said. Altogether, 75 junior and 32 senior Karatekas paraded their skills and competed for the bragging rights in the Kata and Kumite disciplines. After a day full of action, Zimbabwe took the bragging rights in the senior category while host Namibia made a considerable impact in the junior category. The tournament, which also included kick-boxing, saw Namibia taking on Zimbabwe and Zambia after South Africa and Botswana pulled out of the event at the last minute due to the threat of the
